season over

Our season ended on Saturday with a district final loss to Worthington Christian 3-1. While they were the defending state champs, I think that if we developed a halfway agressive attack, we could have won. Derrick Dupuis had six saves, and Ryan Rausch scored with two minutes left to prevent the shutout. Our record ended at 15-2-3, the best in Fairbanks history.

district finals

For the first time in Fairbanks soccer, the Panthers advanced to the district finals with a 2-1 victory over #2 Fisher Catholic. Alex Johnson hit the game winner from a free kick from 20 yards out with time running out. When the ball went in, there were 2 seconds left in overtime. Roger Abdalla started the scoring off in 35th minute of the first half. Fisher Catholic scored five minutes into the second half when a long shot took a bad hop and bounced over Derrick Dupuis. The defense held the Irish to only 6 shots on goal.

Now we play Saturday at home against Worthington Christian for the district. They are the defending state champs, but we have the home field. The game will probably be in the afternoon, so we can play on our soccer field and not the football field.

tournament victory

On Saturday we beat Grandview Heights 1-0 to advance to the district semi-finals, the farthest any Fairbanks soccer team has made it. Roger Abdalla scored midway through the second half and the defense prevented any goals. We are now 14-1-3, most wins in any season. Now we travel to #2 Fisher Catholic on Wednesday.

game saturday

We play our first tournament game Saturday at Grandview at 4:00. It supposed to be rainy, so their turf field will be slick. Still, they are a good team, despite their .500 record. We will have to play well to beat them.

tie saturday, tuesday forfeit

We tied Johnstown again last Saturday 0-0. It was a hard, physical matchup again. Our 1st tourney game on Tues. was cancelled due to Mount Vernon Academy withdrawing due to exams. Wouldn't have mattered anyway. Our next game is against Grandview Heights on Saturday.

win

We won our last regular season game with a 4-0 victory over Grove City Christian. Lucas Esterline had 2 goals and Ryan and Roger each added another. Matt had 3 saves. Our next game is our Conference tournament game against Johnstown at 6:30 on Saturday. Now we are 12-1-2.

fitting song

a song that defines our conference season.

11-1-2

We picked up another win yesterday on Senior Night against Ben Logan 3-1. Ryan Rausch, Alex Johnson, and Roger Abdalla each scored, and Matt McKee had 8 saves. Now 5th in D3, we play Grove City Christian on Thursday at 5:00

1st loss, but...

We lost on Saturday to JA 1-0. They scored in the 1st minute and our offense never generated much of a attack. We are now 10-1-2. Tonight is Senior Night against Ben Logan at 5:00.
On another note, the district tournament bracket is out. We are ranked 5th in D3. We play Mount Vernon Academy at home next Tuesday at 5:00 in the 1st round.

another win

We improved to 10-0-2 and 4-0-1 in league play with a 4-0 win over Buckeye Valley. Ryan Rausch had a hat trick and Austin Burns had a throw in go off the goalkeeper. Derrick DuPuis and Matt McKee combined for 8 saves. Our next game is Saturday morning against Jonathan Alder at 10 AM

good and bad

We won last night over Gahanna Christian 9-0. It was 3-0 at halftime, but we scored 3 goals in the first 2:27 of the 2nd half. Ryan Rausch led the scoring with 4 goals. We are now 9-0-2 with a huge game Thursday at Buckeye Valley to decide who plays for the league championship.
On another note, we dropped down in the latest polls from 7th to 9th. Even though we are undefeated, we've tied #4 Johnstown and #7 Delaware Christian, and beat #5 Tree of Life in a scrimmage without an subs, yet they jumped up ahead of us. I guess being 9-0-2 doesn't give you any respect in the polls.
